Far too often do we treat our planet as a resource rather than our home. We wouldn't be anywhere without mother earth, and yet we exploit our earth in ways that are unimaginable. Around 80% of the surface of our agricultural land is used to farm meat and provide grazing for farm animals, which takes up space from native species. The way we handle business in the present renders more greenhouse gasses than our ecosystem can sustain, which puts more pressures on native species, including birds, which are changing their migration paths just to compensate for the heatwaves. Humans are responsible for what is called the holocene extinction, which is in reference to a mass extinction event in this geological period of our planets history, and this has come about from the ways we have treated the planet, how we eat, how we manufacture, manage business, etc. We are not doomed as a species, in fact, this is our greatest opportunity for growth. The song you are hearing is of the last recorded song of the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō bird, the last species in the ʻōʻō family to go extinct. They left us in 1987.
