Some Websites I find interesting

The Library of Babel

This website is one that made me think deeply about the nature of reality. The Library of Babel is essentially a library full of books. These books are all randomly generated by an algorithm, and this is interesting because each book has limited pages, and a limited amount of characters can be used, but the website includes every permutation of those letters combined in every single combination within the aformentioned constraints. As such, you can find somewhere in its library your full name with your home address, or a page having a detailed account of how you will die one day. Any thought you could think or come up with isn't technically original because this algorithm came up with it, and is able to come up with every page of every book written or that will be written. Because of this, there are more books on this site than there are atoms of the observable universe, which is to say that this website has a lot in its library. Each book isn't downloaded to the site, but the algorithm knows where on each shelf you can find the book and page for the text you are looking for. This has made me question if my words have weight if all the words I could ever say could be found on this site, but most of the pages on this library are jumbled text, because in a limited infinity of options, most pages would be a random jumble of text, which means you would have to search for many lifetimes to find the page that contains the secrets you are looking for. But most of the things we say has meaning, which gives our words more weight than an algorithm. It is still fascinating though, take a look through it yourself!

Every Noise

This page is a scatter plot of over 6,000 genres of music. It is a nice way to explore the various genres that exist outside of your country and to get to listen to more sounds than the ones you are used to. Hitting the scan button lets you listen to a genre for a few seconds before cycling to another random one, and it is an interesting way to hear some genres that are more obscure.

Cameron's World

Cameron's world is a love-letter to geocities. It is made from the remnants of authentic geocities from 1994-2009. The website is something special to me because it captures that early internet vibe I so fondly remember growing up, and have tried to replicate here on this site.

Pool Suite

A website turned app for iOS and Android, this website plays groovy music with a retro summer asthetic. The site plays old 80s advertisement videos in the background to add to the asthetic and is the perfect thing to play on all screens at a pool party.

Windows 93

Windows 93 is a website that mimicks a nonexistent operating system, which gives off a distinctly 90's vibe and has more features than my windows 95 page on this neocity.
